Congratulations to Michael Todd who took round 1 of the Irish 1/8th buggy championship in dominant fashion with his Dynamite powered Losi 8ight 2.0.

Associated driver Alan Bickerstaff's RC8 grabbed a close run TQ spot winning 2 of the 4 qualifying rounds. Barkley Abernathey's OS powered XRay 808 took second spot, followed by Michael and Mark Harron's Hot Bodies DB8. David Curtis's Crono and Gary Baird's Kyosho made up the top 6, and thats 6 different brands in the top 6! Young Josh Wells stormed the D final with Ryan Hamilton securing the second bump up spot, pitman Blaine Baird serving him well. But neither of these drivers would make it out of the 20 minute C Final. That honor was reserved for Mickey Monaghan and Mateusz Pajak with Tony Dorney 23 seconds further down the road in third. The B final saw an electric start from yours truely, into the lead from 6th by the third corner. Four more drivers were to lead the B-final over the 30 minute race, but it was the Losi of Richard Quigley which was there at the flag, followed by the Kyosho of Darren Hill driving from 4th to second - pole man Adam Davidson missing out on the A by a mere 6 seconds. A very quick start from David Curtis saw him clear into second by the first corner, but unfortunately ran into the back of a more cautious RC8, putting pole man Alan Bickerstaff to the very back of the field making his race an uphill struggle from the start. Barkley, Mark and Gary all had a go at leading the race, but by lap 15, Michael was back in front and was to retain that spot for the duration of the race with an almost flawless drive. Mark Harron suffered a little from several flame outs pushing him back to 5th spot overall. Barkley drove a sterling race combined with one pit stop less than his competitors to secure second from a charging Alan closing in from third. Overall, the weather was great, the track was great, and the racing was great. What a way to spend a Sunday. Thanks to the Navan NItro Nuts for hosting a fantastic first round of the 2009 RCCAOI championship. |
