Scottish GP 2007

14 local racers and pitmen made the trip to Dunfermline for this years Scottish GP, and there must have been something in the air!!! 6 in the A final and 3 in the B final, the Scottish lads didn't know what had hit them.

Alan Bickerstaff successfully defended his title from last year, but the win was a very closely fought battle with John Lindsay taking leg 1 of the A, Alan leg 2 after Mark Gilliland (Xray) received a questionable 10 second penalty. Alan clinched the title in a tooth and nail battle between Alan and Mark in leg 3.

Peter Phillips surprised everyone - apart from himself and father Ronnie - with a stunning TQ at the event. Supperb driving and probably the fastest 27T car I have ever seen delivered the pole. Fading tires scuppered Peter's chances of converting the front spot on the grid to the win.

Driver(s) of the day

The Scottish GP brought the very best out of all our local drivers - and its seems wrong not to mention Alan Bickerstaff (Associated), the overall winner, Mark Gilliland - runner up, Derek McCluskey (Schumacher) or Andrew Rennick (Corally) on strong A final performances.

However the drivers that significantly outperformed current form have to have been:

Peter Philips for his incredible drive in the last round of qualifying, brining together all his hard work and preparation to the Fastest Time Qualifying.

Scott Kenny who hasn't made many A finals at home this season, decided it was a good time to return to form, taking 7th overall, the same as his qualifying spot.

Johnny Dunne, probably the best he had ever driven taking 5th spot in the B Final, Johnny was threatening the back end of the A final for most of the day. His alternative approach to preparation the previous day obviously worked wonders!

Magic Memories

  • The final round of qualifying when Graham Kenny came so close, Scott Kenny made sure of an A final, and Peter Philips TQ'd.
  • The third leg of the A final when Alan and Mark were nose to tail .....again.....this time for the title.
  • The smiles on the faces of Andy Smith, Marty Kenny and Blaine Baird after racing round an excellent SGP circuit
  • Graham Nelsons return to racing rewarded with an excellent B final finish.

Just reward for Johnny Dunne's drive of his career - we may have a new A final regular on our hands!!!!
